“Hands and Eyes”
Bundles of energy
Out the door
Running in the sun
To their car seats...
They know “Target”
With it’s red carts
And rows of shelves
With everything especially toys...
Questions from the back seat
Asking and hoping
About what they’re going for
Polite and very excited...
“How long will it take”
They ask, “to get there”
Granddad’s with them
And he smiles...
The automatic doors
Silently welcome them
One into a cart
As the other takes a hand...
The colorful packages are studied
Small intent faces search
Up and down the aisles
For that one dream toy...
One more round of looking
Before Star Wars and blocks
Are held in small hands
With eyes alight...
Such joy is wondrous
And heart-capturing
For more seasoned souls
Watching in delight...
Touching small hands and seeing eyes dance is a gift of life’s sweetness.
